Lamphun Fabric
Lamphun cloth belongs to the same family of fabrics as Phum Riang fabric. However, it is more popular to use silver and silk threads, offering a variety of colors, unlike the typically dark hues of golden cloth. Lamphun cloth is often worn as a sarong, which leads to simpler patterns. It has been used in the traditional Thai royal attire worn by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, becoming a standard for the royal family during important ceremonies.
Pha Yok Lamphun imitates the weaving method of Pha Yok Thong, but adapts it for local production, aligned with wearing sarongs, which became common during the influence of Western-style skirts in Thailand.
Lamphun weaving has its roots in the time of Princess Dararasami, who brought weaving techniques from the royal artisans back to Chiang Mai, which became a signature of Samphan City.
